Story behind the scene

After a career built as an international correspondent and analyst, distinguished Chinese journalist Yijun ZHOU turns her attention to education systems in a fast-paced, ever- changing world, as a mother of two young mixed children.

In Childhood Elsewhere, Yijun travels to Finland, India, Japan, Britain, and Israel to meet educators, parents and children. She learns about their first-hand experiences and discusses education philosophies with them.

Unlike other documentary films about education, in Childhood Elsewhere Yijun searches for the answers not only inside classrooms but also in the societies, to understand education within cultural and historical contexts. In the final episode, Yijun ZHOU discusses how traditions should be taught to future generations.
